How you can help Hillingdon people in need this Christmas

It’s that time of year when lots of us rush out to buy an Advent calendar to mark the start of the countdown to Christmas, and excitedly open a door on it each day in anticipation of receiving a gift. But not everyone can be fortunate to receive things at Christmas and, this year in particular, the current cost of living crisis means that everyday life is becoming a struggle for many more people.

So, when the Hillingdon Foodbank approached us to design a ‘reverse’ advent calendar, we were more than happy to help. Instead of receiving a gift each day, we’d like people to donate one. There are lots of everyday items that you can give that will make a huge difference to the lives of many families and individuals – as every parcel on our Advent calendar reflects.

Each day, just find the parcel on the calendar that corresponds to that date, and it will tell you what you need to buy. Or simply donate what you can. Then when you're ready, take your parcel to the drop off point – but check that it will be there in time to help people this Christmas. You can find food donation boxes in most supermarkets. From there the parcels are spread out evenly among the distribution centres in the borough. But if your supermarket does not have a drop off box, you can ask your local distribution centre where the best place would be to take your parcel - see the map of the centres (right). We thank you for your help!
